Early Years SENCO Award (Refundable Deposit)

The purpose of the course is to ensure that SENCO’s:

  • Feel capable and confident to effectively support the children and families they work with.
  • To understand that the quality of provision a child with SEND experiences has major implications for the child and their family.
  • Are aware that the role of the SENCO is a complex one.

The programme consists of:

  • 12 full days training (plus half a day celebration event).
  • Visits to other participant’s settings to share and reflect on good practice. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, this may be carried out virtually.
  • SEND statutory requirements, the role of the SENCO, and exploring processes and pathways.
  • SENCO’s will be able to hear from the work of other professionals such as Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, SEN Team and many more.
  • Visit to specialist provision (if feasible due to Covid 19 restrictions).

Participants will need to:

  • Be a minimum of Level 3 qualified practitioner and currently working as a SENCO within their setting. If you are new to the SENCO role, you must attend ‘New to the role of SENCO’ training before undertaking this level 3 course.
  • Involve and commit to completing the programme.
  • Completion of tasks to build a portfolio of evidence – all coursework will be completed electronically, so access to a laptop or tablet will be beneficial.
  • Development of own research to support the learning process.
  • Effective time management to develop a plan, do, review approach.

Managers agree to:

  • Recognising the value of the SENCO role.
  • Support the participant’s attendance at each session/attend virtually online.
  • Allow time for SENCO to complete tasks and assignments back in the setting.
  • Support for whole setting engagement.
  • Pay a deposit of £200 which will be fully refunded on completion of the course.

Why Attend?

On successful completion of the course, participants will gain the ‘Level 3 Early Years SENCO Award’, accredited by CACHE, aswell as being awarded 5 credits towards a level 4 CACHE qualification.

Delegates must be fully committed to attend all 12 sessions.

SENCO’s from PVI’s, Early Years Senco’s in school and Childminders can register for this course.

The cost of this course will be funded by Wirral Local Authority.

Please note, if a SENCO in your setting has already completed this award, you will not be considered for a further funded place on this courseYou can, however, apply for an additional place at a cost of £1,000 + VAT.

NB: There will be a virtual information briefing for Senco’s and Managers on Wednesday 22nd September, 4-5pm to discuss the course in more detail.  We would like all participants to attend this briefing.

To book a funded place, please only select the ‘pay by invoice’ option. The refundable deposit will then be held via this invoice route and only processed if the course is not attended in full.
