Level 3 Early Years SENCo Award

Event Date:

January 21, 2025

Event Time:

9:30 am

Event Location:

Birkenhead Town Hall

Please discuss the course with your manager to ensure you can be fully released on ALL course days and that they will facilitate personal study time during the course.

The purpose of the course is to ensure that SENCO’s:

  • Feel capable and confident to effectively support the children and families they work with.
  •  To understand that the quality of provision a child with SEND experiences has major implications for the child and their family.
  • Are aware that the role of the SENCO is a complex one and how to undertake it effectively.
The programme consists of:

  •   12 full days training (plus half a day celebration event) held in term time.
  •   Visits to other participant’s settings to share and reflect on good practice.
  •   SEND statutory requirements, the role of the SENCO, partnership working, early identification, SEND Local Offer, and Wirral’s processes and pathways.
  •   SENCO’s will be able to hear from the work of other professionals such as Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Autism and Social Communication Team and many more.  We invite a guest speaker to every session.
  • Visit to specialist provision.
Participants will need to:

  •  Be a minimum of Level 3 qualified practitioner and currently working as a SENCO, or are interested in taking on this role within their setting. This qualification is also appropriate for childminders.
  •   Involve and commit to completing the programme.
  • Work towards a Level 3 CACHE/NCFE qualification.  Complete two level 3 written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence, carry out research and further study in between sessions.
This course is fully funded by Wirral Council and will be FREE to all participants who do not have a qualified Level 3 EY SENCO in their setting.  Only one funded place per setting can be offered.

All sessions are 9.30am to 4.00pm.  We follow a hybrid model with Session 1, 6 and 12 in person, at Birkenhead Town Hall, and the remainder being virtual via Microsoft Teams.

Participants MUST be able to attend ALL sessions prior to booking a place on the course.

A Celebration Event will be held on 24/06/2025 after the completion of the course for learners to share their experiences with other SENCO’s and setting managers.  Certificates are awarded at this event.
