This training is for those practitioners that have overall responsibility for safeguarding within a childcare setting.

The course will:

  • Describe the role and main responsibilities of the designated safeguarding lead
  • Cover the key legislation and guidance underpinning safeguarding within a childcare setting
  • Ensure delegates know how to respond effectively to a child who reports abuse
  • Support delegates to understand the barriers that prevent children from disclosing abuse
  • Explain what happens following a referral to children’s social care and what role the setting has in multi-agency processes to safeguard children
  • Highlight the issues connected to recording and sharing information, including confidentiality
  • Raise awareness of the emotional impact of safeguarding children and identify ways in which a safeguarding lead can support staff
