This session is aimed at those practitioners working directly with children. With the emphasis on children developing communication and language skills. This workshop will explore the importance of songs and rhymes in this process.

The aims of the session are:

  • Consider the role of the adult in maximising opportunities for children to hear and use songs, rhymes and chants.
  • Have a renewed energy for and understanding of how to effectively use song/rhyme chants in the early years.
  • Think about how this plays a vital role in developing early language skills.
  • Plan to create more opportunities for children to hear and use song/rhyme and chant both in small groups and during care routines.
  • That practitioners understand their role as the language model.
  • Look at the challenges.
  • Introduce practical ideas to support effective practice.
